Not far from Champasak, Laos, I found a family sharing lunch with neighbors helping them plant their rice crop. Most families farm less than half a hectare, so the paddies can easily be planted in less than a day by a group of ten or twelve friends. Over the course of a week or so, the families cover the entire group's paddies...and enjoy festive communal lunches along the way. I planted no rice, but enjoyed lunch anyway.

The matriarch of this particular farm (far right) proudly served a feast.
