The city of General Santos, at the southern tip of Mindanao, is home to one of the largest fishing ports in Asia. Tuna - Skipjack, Yellowfin and Bluefin - arrive nearly constantly from the far reaches of the western Pacific. The large Yellowfin and Bluefin tuna are rated for quality, thrown on ice, auctioned off to high bidders and immediately loaded onto planes bound for Tokyo, Seattle and wherever else fresh tuna is in high demand.
